The SightMark Ultra Shot Plus
There is an increasing number of brands bringing some extremely high quality, but very reasonably priced optics to the market. One of those companies is SightMark and I’ve recently got my hands on a number of their tactical sights to see how good they really are.
The Ultra Shot Plus is a tactical reflex sight suitable for all calibres of rifle up to and including .50 cal and is available in two colours – Black or Flat Dark Earth. With a body construction made of aluminium this red dot is not only tough and durable, but very light, weighing in at just 9.2 oz. There are four different reticles to select from and these are available in either red or green with five brightness settings. Depending on how bright you set your reticle the battery life from the single CR123A battery could be up to 1,000 hours of continuous use.
Out of the box the Ultra Shot comes in a very nice zip up neoprene cover. Even when transporting the rifle in my Cannae Pro Triplex Acies gun bag I would slip the neoprene cover over the top as an extra layer of protection and to ensure that I kept as much dust off of the window glass as possible.
Staying with the window, the Ultra Shot has a good wide field of view – 35 m at 100 m – the window dimensions are 33 mm x 24 mm making target acquisition very easy and with the 1x magnification you can place the Ultra Shot to your personal preference anywhere along your top rail. I also found that the large window enabled me leave the iron sights mounted and co-witness directly through the very clear glass. So, if, or when you ever run out of battery life you can immediately switch to iron sights without removing the red dot. Fitting the sight to the rail couldn’t be easier with the quick-detach mount which is compatible with both picatinny and weaver rails.
I’ve already mentioned that the Ultra Shot Plus is suitable for centrefire rifles all the way up to .50 cal, but because of the price bracket that it falls into this red dot is going to be very popular with airsoft skirmishers and milsimers. These days it’s becoming increasingly common to see real steel optics and accessories fitted to RIFs with people making the choice to spend a little more once rather than go cheap and continually replace low quality products from the far east because they’re not sturdy enough to take a knock, or you just accept that if you buy a red do for about £30 you’re probably going to go through more than one.
This leads me onto another reason why spending the extra money on a SightMark optic is going to make total sense. The Ultra Shot Plus is protected by SightMark’s limited Lifetime Warranty. This means that if you’re out and and your optic is unintentionally damaged or is broken, including the glass being shot out; SightMark will replace it.
For more information about SightMark optics, the lifetime warranty and where to find your closest retailer, contact the UK SightMark distributor, Scott Country International.
