Bettws Hall Sporting Estates, a leading game bird shooting estate based in Mid-Wales, successfully raised £59,185 for the NHS Charities Together through a raffle to win a day out shooting at Vaynor Park.
In April 2020 the exclusive family run business, launched the ambitious fundraiser on JustGiving, a fundraising platform with the target of £50,000. After 186 days of campaigning, the shooting community came together to help Bettws Hall smash this target.
“We did not ever imagine exceeding £50,000 when we first conjured up the idea back in April,” explains Gwyn Evans, Managing Director of Bettws Hall, “We were clapping for our carers one Thursday evening and could see community spirit was strong. We thought that there must be something more we can do for our heroes on the frontline. And so, we decided to donate a day at one of our six estates for a full team.”

The fundraiser climaxed on Friday 23rd November when the draw was made for the winning ticket at 4pm by Amazon’s Alexa, two hours prior to the Welsh fire breaker lockdown. In attendance were Russell George AM, Clr Gareth Pugh, Rosemary Harris, Head of Powys County Council, as well as Richard Jones of NHS Shrewsbury & Telford.
The funds raised will contribute to what the NHS can provide, such as wellbeing packs, accommodation, travel, parking and volunteer expenses. Support for the longer term mental and rehabilitation of NHS staff, volunteers, patients and carers after the pandemic is over. Supporting NHS patients to leave hospital quickly and safely and to remain or stay out of hospital.

NHS Staff Nurse, Jules Lewis of the Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust, spoke via phone link on the day of the draw at Bettws, quoting, “The money you have raised is making such a difference…to help support our staff so they can support their patients. We can continue to do some amazing stuff…and you are all awesome! Thank you so much, it means the world to us.”
